The Southwest Regional Balloon Club, University Medical Center Physical Medicine and Fly The Rainbow organization had a very successful event at Lakeridge Baptist church on August 19th.  17 patients and approximately 30 caregivers/family were able to take a tether flight in the FLY THE RAINBOW wheelchair accessible balloon basket, while the other pilots from the balloon club inflated and stayed on the ground to let everyone get a good look at hot air balloons. Plans are already being discussed for an even larger event in 2009.

The Southwest Regional Balloon Clubs Non Rally-Rally was also a successful event with pilots from the Amarillo Club joining in a morning launch at Patterson Park in Wolffforth. While only two balloons flew from the park, the rest hot inflated and Greg Dodson in the Amarillo National Bank Balloon gave tether rides to approximately 50 spectators. Sunday morning the launch was at Buffalo Springs Lake and everyone launched from the west end of the lake. Greg Dodson again gave tether rides to spectators. After returning from flying a joint tailgate was held at the lake. Special thanks to Jerry Hooper and family for bringing the S.S. America from Corpus Christi and joining in the fun.

More events planned for the future and the South Plains Balloon Round Up will be back in full force next year.
